SmartFinancial review: leads, pricing and terms
SmartFinancial runs SmartFinancial.com, an insurance comparison site, and sells the shoppers it gathers to agents as live call transfers and real-time web leads. It covers auto, home, renters, health, Medicare, life and commercial insurance.
You can buy shared leads, which go to no more than three agents and only one agent per carrier, or exclusive leads and calls in auto, home and health. Pricing works by bid, and you manage your territory, filters, daily caps and call hours from one dashboard.

Our take
SmartFinancial fits agents who want live transfers and web leads in one account and are happy to manage bidding, territory and caps themselves. You pick your area codes or states, add filters, cap daily volume, set call hours and adjust your bid, and an account manager reviews the setup with you every two weeks.
Start small, with one line, a few area codes and either shared or exclusive web leads. After you know your cost per sale, add live transfers, which cost more per contact but give you a shopper who already said they want a quote.
The account runs on a prepaid balance and SmartFinancial sets the opening deposit for each agent, so ask your account manager what yours will be when you sign up. Your filters also decide which leads qualify for a return, so get them set before you go live.

Prices here are ballpark figures as of September 2026. Your price depends on your bid, line, territory and filters.
Live call transfers
Before the call reaches you, a SmartFinancial representative has already talked to the shopper and confirmed they want a quote, and then the call is transferred live. Some come in showing "mobile caller" and a number with no name, others show both.
Billing starts when the call connects to your transfer number during the hours you set in your portal, which is why those hours need to be right. Call recordings play back in the dashboard, so you can check quality and coach your staff.
Clicks
SmartFinancial also sells clicks, where it sends shoppers to a web page you pick and charges you for each unique click. The shopper lands on your page and you don't get their contact details.
Getting started
- Sign up on the agent site and fund the account with a deposit. SmartFinancial picks the amount and you can't get it back.
- Build a profile for each product. Pick states or area codes, add filters and set calls or leads per day, call hours, how many calls can ring at once and the number transfers go to. There are also account-wide maximums for leads and calls.
- SmartFinancial suggests a bid for each product, and you raise it if you want more volume in a competitive area.
- Leads land in the SmartFinancial dashboard and can also go out by email or text, or to your CRM, rater or dialer.
- Once your balance falls to $50, your card is charged the rebill amount you chose in the portal.
- Your account manager handles 40 to 50 clients and goes over your account with you every two weeks.
- A pause lasts at most 14 days, and then the account turns itself back on.
Pricing
SmartFinancial suggests a bid for each product and you can raise it to win more volume. You only pay for the leads, calls and clicks you actually get, and when your bid wins a carrier spot shown to the shopper, that bid is the price. There's no published price list.

Two credits can take some of the sting out of the cost. Repeat buyers earn free leads through a rewards program, and every agent you refer gets you $50 in free leads or calls. Just know that leads bought with rewards or promo credits can't be returned.
Cost per sale
Sales to break even each month
Cash to start, paying by card
Cost per sale is the price divided by your close rate. Break-even is the number of sales whose commission covers a month of spend. Cash to start is your deposit plus the 2.95% card fee.
Sample leads and filters
SmartFinancial publishes sample leads for auto, home, renters, health, life and commercial insurance, and what's in the lead changes a lot from one line to the next. Every lead includes the shopper's name, phone, email and address.
Auto leads

An auto lead tells you the shopper's current carrier, how long they've been with it and when it expires, the limits and deductibles they want, and then a block for each driver and each vehicle. For drivers you get license status, education, occupation, credit rating, marital status, homeowner status, DUI and SR-22. For vehicles you get year, make, model, trim, VIN, use, annual miles, ownership and the garaging ZIP.
Home leads

Home leads go into the property itself: home type, ownership, design, construction, foundation, roof type and age, year built, garage, total rooms, square footage, bedrooms and bathrooms, and whether there's a business use. The shopper's wanted replacement cost, personal liability limit and deductible show up too, next to their current carrier, time with it and expiration date. The homeowner's birthday, marital status, education, occupation and credit rating are included.
Renters leads

Renters leads follow the home layout with ownership shown as rented. The renter's wanted coverage amount, liability limit and deductible are there, and so are their current carrier and expiration date. You also get details on the unit such as type, construction, year built, rooms and square footage.
Health leads

On a health lead you get the current carrier, time with it and expiration date first, and then a block for each applicant with relation, birthday, gender, height, weight, tobacco use, marital status, pre-existing conditions and the type of condition. At the end come household size and annual income range.
Life leads

The life lead starts with the type of coverage the shopper wants (whole life in the sample) and the amount, then their current carrier and expiration date. After that come the applicant's underwriting details, which are birthday, gender, height, weight, tobacco use, marital status, pre-existing conditions, prescriptions, DUI history, military service and credit rating.
Commercial leads

The commercial lead names the company and its contact, then covers legal entity status, annual revenue and payroll ranges, years in business and experience, full-time and part-time staff, partners, subcontractors, seasonal work and a short description of the business. It ends with the coverage requested (general liability in the sample) and the amount.
Filters
Most of these fields can be used as filters, which you add to each profile along with your states or area codes. Filters raise the price, and SmartFinancial doesn't publish the full filter list, so ask your account manager for the list for your line and what each filter adds to your bid.
Lead quality checks
Most of SmartFinancial's traffic comes from its own site, SmartFinancial.com, with partner websites and affiliates sending the rest. For live transfers, a SmartFinancial representative screens every caller before connecting them. Leads and calls include the shopper's consent to be called or texted where your order requires it.
Affiliates that send leads must keep a TrustedForm or Jornaya-style consent record for each one for five years, and SmartFinancial can require them to use a third-party verification service. SmartFinancial also works with Jornaya (LeadiD), xVerify and RealValidation, which check consent records and contact details.
Delivery and integrations
A lead counts as delivered once it loads into your SmartFinancial dashboard. From there it can go out by email or text, or straight into your CRM, rater or dialer if you give SmartFinancial access.
Custom API connections are available. Test your email, text and CRM connections before you go live, since SmartFinancial's responsibility ends once the lead reaches your dashboard.
Named integrations include ClientCircle, Blitz and AgencyMVP.
Lead returns
Approved returns are credited to your account balance. Cash refunds aren't available.
A return request has to come within 10 days of delivery. To request one, open the lead in your dashboard, click "Request Refund" and give a detailed reason. If auto rebill is off, returns go through account management.
Once you request a return, stop contacting the shopper and delete the lead everywhere, including your CRM, or SmartFinancial will deny the request.

A ZIP code that spans two area codes can send you calls from the area code you didn't choose. SmartFinancial may audit accounts with high return rates. Raise any billing dispute within 5 days of the invoice.
Contract and cancellation details
There's no long-term contract. To leave, send written notice and allow up to 15 business days for SmartFinancial to process it.
Any balance left on the account isn't refunded, though you can spend it on SmartFinancial products. If SmartFinancial ends the agreement instead, it credits your remaining balance back to you, minus anything you owe.
If you plan to stop buying for a while, spend the balance down first or ask what the inactivity fee is, since a monthly fee starts after 90 days without activity. A pause can last up to 14 days. After that the account turns back on by itself, and you pay for the traffic that follows.

Vendors change their pricing all the time and they don't email us when they do.
