Questions to ask before you buy
How many CE hours do I need?
It depends on your state and license. California, Florida and Texas ask for 24 hours every two years (Florida drops to 20 once you have been licensed six years or more) and New York for 15. Each state sets its own ethics hours.
Who reports my CE to the state?
Usually the provider, after you pass. Some post the same day and others take up to 30 days, so check your transcript before your license date.
What is a state reporting fee?
What the state charges to record your hours, usually added at checkout. California charges $0.65 per credit hour. Texas bills providers $1.30 and most pass it on, though 360training charges agents $0.88.
Can one course count in two states?
Often. Most states accept your home state's CE for a nonresident license, but annuity and long-term care training can still apply.
What is a classroom-equivalent course?
An online course a state counts like a classroom, often with quizzes in place of a final. Texas wants half of your hours in classroom or classroom-equivalent courses.
Is AHIP the same as state CE?
No. AHIP is a yearly Medicare training that carriers use. AHIP says it can also earn CE credit, so check your state's rules.
Frequently asked questions
What is an insurance continuing education provider?
An insurance CE provider sells courses that licensed agents take to meet their state's continuing education hours, and some also sell pre-licensing and exam prep.
How much do CE providers cost?
All 13 publish prices: NobleCE, XCEL Solutions, National Online Insurance School, 360training, InsuranceStudy, AdjusterPro, America's Professor, Kaplan Financial Education and five more. A state renewal package of 20 to 24 hours costs $38.95 to $49.95 before the state reporting fee, and single courses start at $12.95. The cost guide has every published price.
How is this list ordered?
We start from a default order built on trust factors, which are how many buyer facts the vendor publishes, whether its identity is verified, how openly it shows prices, how long it has been in business and an editorial review. Affiliate and paid links play no part, and a higher spot does not mean a better product. Read how we order vendors.
How we researched this. We based this page on each vendor's published pricing where available, terms and product pages, reviewed in October 2026, together with our team's experience working with insurance agents and agency owners since 2008.
