Insurance Licensing Software: Compare 9 Producer Licensing Tools

By the IAT editorial team | Updated October 9, 2026

Insurance licensing software tracks producer licenses, appointments and continuing education (CE) with data from NIPR, the national producer registry. Many tools also file license applications, appointments and terminations for you.

We compared 9 tools on price, what they file, carrier contracting and managed services. Uplines here means the IMOs, FMOs and MGAs (independent and field marketing organizations and managing general agents) that recruit and contract producers.

Questions to ask before you buy

  • What is NIPR?

NIPR, the National Insurance Producer Registry, runs the national database of producer licenses. It also runs the gateway most states use for license and appointment filings. Licensing tools read the first and file through the second.

  • Who pays the state and NIPR fees?

Usually you do, on top of the software price. Some tools charge them to your own NIPR account, and managed services may pay them and bill you back.

  • Does the tool file appointments or only track them?

Check this first. Some tools only track appointments that the carrier files, while carrier-side tools send appointments and terminations to the states.

  • What is a just-in-time appointment?

The carrier appoints a producer only when the first piece of business comes in. It saves appointment fees on agents who never sell.

  • Can I try one before buying?

Most of these tools sell through a demo and a quote, and Agenzee and InsureTrek also let one producer sign up alone. Ask for a pilot on your own producers before you sign a yearly contract.

  • Can I take my data with me?

Ask how producer records and documents export before you sign. Some vendors bill for the export.

Frequently asked questions

What is insurance licensing software?

It replaces spreadsheets and lookups on state websites. Each producer gets one record of licenses, appointments and CE that updates from NIPR and warns you before anything lapses.

How much do licensing tools cost?

Three of the nine licensing tools on this page publish prices: SureLC, Agenzee and InsureTrek. Agenzee publishes $20 a month, billed yearly ($29.99 billed monthly), the only subscription price here.

SureLC ($4 per state license) and InsureTrek ($7 per application) charge per filing, and SureLC quotes its subscription. The cost guide has every published price.

Which licensing tools offer a free trial?

None of the nine list a free trial on their profiles. InsureTrek lets producers track licenses for free, and teams can run a 90-day Test Drive priced at the demo. The rest sell through a demo.

How is this list ordered?

We start from a default order built on trust factors, which are how many buyer facts the vendor publishes, whether its identity is verified, how openly it shows prices, how long it has been in business and an editorial review. Affiliate and paid links play no part, and a higher spot does not mean a better product. Read how we order vendors.

How we researched this. We based this page on each vendor's published pricing where available, terms and product pages, reviewed in October 2026, together with our team's experience working with insurance agents and agency owners since 2008.
