Products and getting started

QuoteWizard

  1. Fill out the join form on the agent site and choose your lines.
  2. Pick packages and filters with a sales rep, along with your territory and daily or weekly caps.
  3. Set the amount charged to your card. The card is charged again once your balance falls under what a single lead costs. You can set a cash cap to stop automatic charges.
  4. Leads arrive in the QuoteWizard dashboard and by email, and can post into your CRM, rater or dialer.
  5. Pause when you need to. Standard accounts get 45 vacation days a year, and higher-volume accounts get more.

MediaAlpha

  1. As an independent agent, open an account and deposit at least $250. The deposit becomes lead credit.
  2. Set up your profile with state, ZIP codes and radius, shopper types, vehicle counts, coverage and driving history, a delivery schedule, a daily cap and your bid.
  3. Leads arrive in your account and by email, with optional text alerts or a post to your lead management system.
  4. Turn on auto-refill so your account tops up when the balance falls below the account minimum.

Price and cost to start

QuoteWizard publishes starting package prices, such as $7.88 for an Auto Premium lead and $7.50 for home, and the filters you add push that up. MediaAlpha publishes no general price list, so you either bid in an auction or take leads at a fixed price. MediaAlpha also wants a $250 deposit up front that turns into lead credit, while QuoteWizard bills as you go and publishes no deposit.

Shared or exclusive

Neither sells a shared lead to more than four buyers, but they limit the crowd in different ways. MediaAlpha allows only one agent tied to any given carrier, while QuoteWizard reports an average of about 1.7 buyers on auto and 1.8 on home. MediaAlpha keeps exclusives to auto, home and life web leads, and QuoteWizard adds exclusive renters and health plus WizardCalls transfers that go to a single agent.

Lead returns

QuoteWizard gives you 10 days to ask for credit on a bad lead and lets you send back up to 25% of them, against 7 days and a 20% monthly cap at MediaAlpha. MediaAlpha publishes its accepted reasons and refuses credit when only one of the phone and email is bad. QuoteWizard keeps its reasons unpublished, so request the policy before funding, and both settle approved returns as account credit.

Contract and cancellation

Neither one locks you into a term. MediaAlpha lets you pause whenever you like and refunds what's left of your balance when you close, but after 90 days without a purchase it charges the greater of 10% or $10 a month, paused or not. QuoteWizard caps pauses at 45 days a year on standard accounts and doesn't publish how to cancel or whether leftover funds come back.

Full contract terms: QuoteWizard and MediaAlpha.

Delivery and integrations

Both drop leads into an online account, send alerts by email or text and can post them to a CRM. QuoteWizard goes further with dialer and rater connections and lets you change caps and territory from the same dashboard. MediaAlpha's email alert shows only the first name and last initial, and its terms ask you to reach each lead within 48 hours.

Lead quality checks

Both log consent with TrustedForm and Jornaya. QuoteWizard says every lead passes its own validation process and it screens calls, with most shoppers finding QuoteWizard.com or its partner sites through Google, Bing and Yahoo. MediaAlpha mixes its own quote sites like QuoteLab with embedded forms, call centers and third-party leads, and its agent terms say it verifies no one and won't warrant TCPA compliance.
