AHIP Medicare Training review: CE courses, state approvals and costs for agents
AHIP Medicare Training is the yearly Medicare certification that many health plans want from agents before they sell Medicare Advantage and Part D. It also covers the required fraud, waste and abuse and compliance training.
You pay once per plan year and can add state CE credit for a separate charge. The 2027 course is online in English and Spanish.

- Price
- $175 per plan year, the same for AHIP members. State CE is an optional extra
- States
- Optional CE credit in every state, DC and Puerto Rico, by AHIP's count

- Reporting
- You send your result to each health plan from the portal. AHIP processes optional CE in 7 to 14 business days
Our take
If a health plan you sell for asks for AHIP, this is the course you take, and one pass can go to every plan that accepts it. Ask your plan administrator first, since some plans add their own modules or give a discount link.
The final is the hard part. You need 90 percent on 50 questions within two hours, with no notes.
State CE is optional. Ask for it before the exam and expect processing to take up to three weeks.
Pros
- One result goes to every participating health plan
- English and Spanish, and you can switch as you go
- Optional state CE in every state, it says
- Module slides download as PDFs
Cons
- 90 percent needed on a closed-book, two-hour final
- State CE costs extra and isn't priced publicly
- No refund once you open any course material
- No separate certificate for the compliance section
States, licenses and approvals
- States
- Optional CE credit in all 50 states, DC and Puerto Rico, by AHIP's count. Hours and credit type vary by state
- License types
- Health and Medicare agents, plus plan staff and financial planners
- Accepted by
- Health plans that take the AHIP result. Each plan sets its own rules and may add its own modules
CE approvals change, so check the course in your state's course search before you pay for credit.

Corrections
Vendors change their pricing all the time and they don't email us when they do. So if you see a price on here that's gone up, a plan AHIP Medicare Training quit selling or a contract term that reads different now, let us know and send the link to the page where AHIP Medicare Training has it. Somebody here pulls up that page and checks it before we change anything on ours.
