Commission Tracker review: pricing, statement matching and producer pay
Commission Tracker imports carrier statements, checks them against what each policy should pay and works out each producer's share. It reads PDF, Excel and CSV files and sends producers their statements.
It is built for life, health, Medicare and benefits agencies that pay producers. Plans start at $67 a month, and a processing service does the monthly work for you.

Our take
Commission Tracker fits a life, health or benefits agency that pays a team of producers and wants splits, overrides and statements done in one place. Agency plans cost a base price plus $1 a month for each producer. If no one on staff has time, the processing service does the monthly work for you.
Setup is the hard part, and users say it takes real effort. You also open the software through a remote desktop app on Windows or Mac, so it looks like a desktop program rather than a web page.
Pros
- Low published prices, month to month
- Reads PDF statements by converting them to Excel
- Deep split, level and upline override rules
- Producer portal and bulk-emailed statements
- Staff can process statements for you
- Any import can be reversed and run again
Cons
- No CRM or agency system connections
- Only 60 minutes of phone support a year
- Statements are uploaded, not pulled from carriers

Statement intake
- File types
- PDF, XLS, XLSX and CSV
- How statements arrive
- You upload them. On the processing service you send them to Commission Tracker staff
- PDF statements
- The PDFx tool turns a PDF into an Excel file you can import
- Carrier layouts
- Ready-made layouts include Aetna, Aflac, Colonial Life, Humana, MetLife, Mutual of Omaha and The Hartford. New layouts are added as customers need them
- Mapping
- Save one or more maps per carrier. Maps can trim policy number prefixes, adjust dates and do math
Matching and missing payments
- Matches on
- Policy number and carrier
- Names that don't match exactly
- It suggests close client and producer matches for you to approve and remembers them
- Lines it can't match
- They go to an exception screen, where you create or renew the policy, fix the date, retry or delete
How it finds missing pay
Carrier commission tables set what each policy should pay. The Payment Discrepancy report lists short, wrong and missing payments, and Accounts Receivable shows unpaid months and how overdue they are.
Fixing a mistake
Edit and repost a payment, or reverse it and reopen the month. A whole import can be reversed and run again, and deleted payments can be restored.
Splits, overrides and hierarchy
Split types
- Percent of agency commission
- Percent of premium
- Flat dollar amount
- Several primary producers on one policy
- House share of what's left
- Reusable split templates
Overrides and hierarchy
An override pays an upline on a downline's sale. Agent levels group producers by rate, and uplines set who reports to whom. The house sits at the top and keeps the rest.
Splits have start dates, so a promotion can apply to new business while old business keeps the old rate. Carrier tables can be versioned by billing date or effective date.
Advances, chargebacks and renewals
- Advances
- Enter producer advances as a flat amount or percent of premium. Carrier advances of 9 or 12 months mark those months as paid
- Chargebacks
- Enter as negative commission, and it flows to every producer paid that month
- Renewals
- Graded tables set new and renewal years. AutoRenew carries premium and splits forward for review
- Bonuses
- Bonuses and overrides post apart from regular commission
Medicare commissions
Batch renewal has a partial-term option that prorates premium to a 12-month cycle. It lines Medicare policies up to a January 1 renewal.

Corrections
Vendors change their pricing all the time and they don't email us when they do. So if you see a price on here that's gone up, a plan Commission Tracker quit selling or a contract term that reads different now, let us know and send the link to the page where Commission Tracker has it. Somebody here pulls up that page and checks it before we change anything on ours.
