Johnson & Johnson review for retail agents: programs, access and binding authority

By the IAT editorial team | Updated October 9, 2026

Johnson & Johnson is a family-owned insurance wholesaler and MGA in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. It places commercial, specialty and personal lines for retail agents and binds many homeowners and flood accounts online. An MGA holds a carrier's authority to underwrite and bind, while a wholesaler shops your account to other markets.

It suits agencies that want one firm for small commercial, coastal homes and flood. You apply online and share your book and plans with the application.

Our take

J&J has 18 offices and underwriting teams for small commercial, brokerage, marine, professional, environmental, comp, trucking and personal lines. Its Stateside division adds professional liability programs for title agents and mortgage brokers.

It shines on personal lines. Coastal and high-value homes, manufactured homes, boats and flood in every zone are all eligible, and many bind online.

Its own finance company, JJPF, is a plus for agencies that finance often. Billing, fee and surplus lines filing terms come after appointment.

Pros

  • Online binding on many homeowners and flood accounts
  • Flood binds without an elevation certificate in most cases
  • In-house premium finance through JJPF
  • Optional IVANS policy downloads
  • Binding authority on small and mid-size commercial

Cons

  • Fee and billing terms aren't published
  • Specialist commercial teams can't bind in house
  • The first IVANS download can overwrite agency data
  • Adjusters can take 72 hours to make contact

Corrections

Vendors change their pricing all the time and they don't email us when they do. So if you see a price on here that's gone up, a plan Johnson & Johnson quit selling or a contract term that reads different now, let us know and send the link to the page where Johnson & Johnson has it. Somebody here pulls up that page and checks it before we change anything on ours.
